The Lewis Retirement Centre | Award

BBC’s Donnie MacLeod selects Award cubicle system.

The Project.

The Lewis Retirement Centre, situated in Stornoway, has been used by almost 20,000 people in the last year, resulting in the centre being in a poor state of repair.

In September 2017, BBC ALBA’s DIY le Donnie enlisted the help of local suppliers and the building community to provide a variety of goodwill gestures in the means of materials and tradesmen to renovate the centre in just one week.

The Challenge.

As part of the building renovation, the washrooms required a total refurbishment to accommodate the growing footfall within the centre, catering for a diverse spectrum of users from babies to the elderly.

The centre has a demanding schedule of groups, clubs and charitable organisations on a daily basis. This requires the facilities to be hard-wearing, withstand heavy usage and be easy to clean and maintain throughout its busiest periods.

The Solution.

With this in mind, Venesta donated Award cubicles for its simple installation in a short time frame, its versatility to work well in both wet and dry environments and its flexibility in small spaces. Specifying the cubicles in HPL meant that the facilities are perfect for heavily used washrooms. The panels are durable, sturdy and impact resistant without impacting on the quality or design.

Award has maximised the available space, especially in the ladies washroom where a breezeblock partition was its main feature and has provided the centre with more toilet facilities. The cubicles feature an easy grip indicator bolt with an emergency release facility, ideal for the elderly to prevent anyone getting locked inside.
