The project.

York High School is a specialist Sports College that caters to students of all abilities and talents. The school’s mission statement, PRIDE, is based on the values of teamwork and sportsmanship shown in the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Teachers at York High School believe that sport, in its widest sense, can be a catalyst for helping young people grow in confidence and develop key life skills.

The school works in close partnership with the students and parents, taking into consideration their opinions and what they require from the school to achieve their full potential.

The challenge.

School Business Leader, Ian Parnaby stated "if you ask pupils what aspect of the facilities is their top priority for the school to improve, it will always be the toilets." Taking that on board, the school decided to renovate the washroom block and transform a very old, unpleasant and unused area into a smart, robust washroom that would be easy to clean and maintain.

The washroom area that required the renovation was a unisex block, which meant that privacy was a key priority for the school when selecting their cubicle range. Therefore, the school requested a cubicle that provided the smallest floor and ceiling clearance possible.

The solution.

With this in mind, York High School selected Centurion Full Height toilet cubicles in New England Solid Grade Laminate (SGL) with extruded aluminium pilasters in Dark Grey. Centurion toilet cubicles combine strength, rigidity and design in equal measure. With a Full Height option available, it was the perfect choice to satisfy the school's need for extra privacy, as Centurion Full Height only requires a 10mm door clearance and minimal 45mm ceiling clearance.

By specifying the cubicles in SGL, the school can be sure their new washroom will stand the test of time. SGL is impact resistant and impervious to water so can therefore meet the most stringent specifications of durability and hygiene; making it ideal for a busy school environment.

For their panelling system, the school chose Venesta’s pre-plumbed system, Vepps. Choosing Vepps meant that the complete unit, including sanitaryware, was pre-assembled in Venesta’s factory for a quick and hassle-free installation.

Specifying Vepps pre-plumbed units in a school washroom is also beneficial post-installation as, due to the high-strength linear-bearing hinges, panels can be opened and positioned at various heights during maintenance. As well as this, the availability of a discreet, tamper-proof stainless steel panel lock provides extra security in busy school areas.

We are so pleased to learn how well received the new facilities were with the students and staff alike at York High School.
