Commercial washroom design trends for 2023.
- Insights
Now spring 2023 is well and truly here, we take a look at the new and emerging commercial washroom design trends that look set to become the norm this year.
Touchless technology.
There’s no denying that in recent years, reducing the spread of germs in common areas has been brought to the forefront of people’s minds. In an effort to limit cross contamination in commercial washrooms contactless flushes, sensor taps and electronic soap dispensers are becoming a more popular choice for handwash areas, particularly within retail, office and school settings.
A perfect washroom addition to consider is the inclusion of a Mirror Box Unit. Ideal for commercial washrooms, a mirror box unit is not only an efficient way of incorporating contactless products, with concealed motion sensor accessories, but also looks great. Coupled with a solid surface vanity or washtrough, you can create a contemporary, hardwearing and easy to clean vanity area.
Employee wellbeing.
Another ‘trend’ that has stemmed from the introduction of hybrid working, (and backed up by research from Gensler) is the undeniable need for incorporating more health and wellness focused facilities into workspaces to support people’s desired work-life balance.
It is now essential for landlords and employees to consider the mental and physical health of their staff when it comes to office design. Incorporating an influence of hospitality and residential elements into the space to create a blend of workplace and leisure will make the office a more desirable place to work. Whether this is an in-house gym with shower and changing facilities to accommodate those who cycle or run, or homely touches within the washrooms, these seemly small additions to an office can help meet the high demands and expectations of employees.
Maximalism is in!
Bold colours are taking centre stage in 2023 with interiors set to be drenched in colour. One thing to bear in mind when selecting the colour palette for your washroom is that your choice needs to consider the mood it reflects and whether this meets your design brief. Why not get creative and go bold with a mix of contrasting colours for a dramatic and uplifting statement design. Alternatively, add extra depth to your washroom with an accent colour coupled with harmonious patterns and mixed textures for a more relaxed atmosphere. Or for a more subtle statement you could simply incorporate your company’s brand colours. The Venesta V3 range of toilet cubicles, when specified in ColourCoat or Gloss, can be manufactured to match any RAL colour to create your desired bespoke colour palette. Multi-sensory design palettes.
Which leads us on to texture… a mixture of rich materials and contrasting textures is a hot trend this year. Select from finishes including gloss, veneer, granite or quartz. You could opt for warm, earthy veneered toilet cubicles with effortless, polished white solid surface vanities. Or go for smooth ColourCoat cubicles coupled with luxurious but contrasting quartz vanity tops. The options are endless so you will be sure to find the right balance of colour and texture to produce a balance and coordinated finish for any commercial washroom.

Sustainability is key.
Utilising sustainable materials and consideration into the life cycle of interior products will continue to be important to designers. But more specifically the reduction of waste and reduced energy are high on the agenda this year.
Utilising pre-assembled or modular products is a great way to limit waste, by reducing the number of deliveries and minimising the energy costs required for installation (think less trades on site and less tools required).
These sustainability goals are more than achievable when it comes to office washroom design. Incorporating pre-plumbed, factory tested products such as Vepps not only ensures product quality, but requires 90% less packaging and onsite installation is 50% faster than traditional plain panel method systems significantly reducing energy and labour costs.
What’s more, with a Venesta solution all our wood based materials are ethically sourced from FSC certified suppliers and all board waste from is recycled in our biomass burner. We stand by our word when it comes to sustainability and the environment.
