Selby High School | Fusion

A slimline, contemporary solution to maximise space.

The Project.

Selby High School is a popular co-educational secondary school in North Yorkshire in the catchment area of Selby and the surrounding districts. Selby High opened its doors in 1908 as an all-girls school but introduced mixed sex education in 1979 due to popular demand. In 2005 Selby High School was awarded a specialist status in Performing and visual Arts.

The schools main goal is the success of all pupils through encouragement, teamwork, mutual respect and an enjoyment of learning. Their ethos is to create an environment where pupils understand that by supporting each other and working together they will be able to achieve more.

The Challenge.

During October 2016, the school undertook a £1.2m development to construct a new PE facilities block on the school grounds. As a school offering numerous extra-curricular activities, they needed to provide an adequate number of toilets to cater for the volume of students using the washrooms.

Selby High required a robust material to withstand a variety of different factors including suitability for both wet and dry environments for both their washroom & new shower facilities. This also meant the facilities needed to provide privacy, whilst maximising the school’s space to provide an adequate number of cubicles.

The Solution.

To fulfill Selby High’s requirements, Fusion was selected for its contemporary, discreet, slim line fittings that could be ergnomically fitted to maximise space within the new washrooms. Fusion’s ultra-strong metal frame combined with slim line pilasters that fix to the floor add rigidity to the cubicles, with the option of full height privacy doors, made the perfect choice.

The school anticipated the new PE block to be a busy part of the school and therefore specified their cubicles in Solid Grade Laminate (SGL) because it is designed to meet the most stringent specifications of durability and hygiene.

SGL was also a great choice for use in the shower block because it’s completely impervious to water.

Using Fusion cubicles meant that Selby High School was able to achieve the durable and robust washroom area they required.  As well as this, the design flexibility and colour choices available meant that they could choose a bold yet sophisticated design that reflected their school colours.
