Bjarke Ingles Group (BIG)

A modern feel whilst ensuring maximum privacy.

“We wanted all of our spaces to feel generous”
- Kai-Uwe Bergmann, Partner, BIG

The Project.

Simply outgrowing their old space, Bjarke Ingels made the decision to relocate his Architect company BIG to Brookyln, where he purchased a waterfront penthouse in the DUMBO neighbourhood.

A complete renovation took place over a 6month period to transform the new space. Kai-Uwe Bergmann, one of the firm’s New York-based partners, described the design as a “holistic” approach with much of the furniture and lighting designed by BIG.

The Challenge.

“The visual excitement and physical proximity to downtown Manhattan combined with DUMBO’s artistic spirit and access to public spaces feels like our native Copenhagen, making it as Scandimerican as any place I can think of.” Says Kai-Uwe Bergmann.

The renovation project included revamping the office restrooms, with a design that would incorporate the “Scandimerican” feel; minimalist and simple. BIG’s focus was to modernise the infrastructure and provide first-rate amenities for its 250 employees.

The Solution.

Our Unity bathroom stalls were specified in full height to ensure maximum privacy, offering a floor clearance of just 50mm. The fittings were stainless steel for a high quality, durable restroom with a discreet emergency access provision for added safety.

To match the décor, Unity’s seamless flush fronts, clean lines and floating appearance makes for a modern feel. This simple restroom design, specified in Iceberg fitted the project brief effortlessly.

The overall finish included faucets designed by BIG for Kallista, a luxury sanitaryware company, and the tiles remain from the original building.

Venesta are delighted to have been involved with this fantastic project. “We love our new office space” and “thank you for helping us make it better than we could have hoped for” says BIG.
