Solutions for School Washrooms.

There are many things you can do to ensure the school washroom is a more inviting place to visit.

Adequate provision of toilets

According to The Association of teachers and Lecturers (ATL), the Education (School Premises) Regulations stipulate that there should be at least 1 toilet for every 10 pupils under 5 years old and 1 for every 20 pupils over that age. Special schools differ however; here the minimum provision is 1 toilet per every 10 pupils, irrespective of age[i].

Answers to budget and time restraints

Whilst it's important, we understand that adding more, or new, toilets is a significant undertaking and time and budget restraints may mean it's just not possible. With this in mind, there are many simple improvements to your school washroom that could be undertaken such as ensuring there is adequate door signage for your washrooms. Starting a new school can be a nerve-racking time for a child so ensuring the boys and girls know exactly where to go when they need the toilet could make a big difference in those first few weeks.

Making students feel safe

Once a child has identified all of the washroom areas, it is important that they feel confident using them. Replacing any broken or damaged cubicle locks is an important part of ensuring that pupils feel safe and secure. Simply identify which cubicle company supplied the product installed in your toilet areas and contact them for replacements.

Pupil privacy

We understand that the washroom areas need to meet the specific needs of your pupils. For younger children, a choice of cubicle heights provides the privacy that growing children need, whilst allowing for adult supervision. For older pupils, privacy and vandal resistance are your key considerations. To ensure that both these needs are met, specifically designed floor channels can be specified and also cubicles that are manufactured from sturdy solid grade laminate with through fixed fittings.
