1965 | The UK's first pre-plumbed system.

Using timber and plywood, Venesta manufactured the UK’s first pre-plumbed system which was installed in Greenwich Hospital.

Greenwich Hospital was an acute district general hospital, built in the 1960s on the site of St Alfege’s Hospital. In order to build a hospital with a large enough capacity for the requirements of the local population on a small site, a single large building was designed.

Work began in 1965 demolishing the old buildings gradually, replacing them with the new, in order to keep the hospital operational.

Many of the new hospital units were prefabricated in the factory and assembled on-site, leading to Venesta manufacturing the UK’s first pre-plumbed system.

The hospital eventually closed in 2001 and its services moved to Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Woolwich.
